"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Rom. 8:37-39
Rom. 8:37-39
In these last two verses of chapter 8, Paul is summing up what has been stated thus far. It is noteworthy to look at the Greek that provides the word "persuaded." It is rooted in the Greek πεπεισμαι (peitho), which means "to convince by argument." Paul has been led to deliver a concise presentation of "how we got from the depths of the grave to the audience of God." He has taught us about our state of sin-induced death, and the lusts of the flesh. We've seen how our belief, through the imparted faith that God has given us, is accounted as righteousness. He has led us up the ladder that went from God's foreknowledge of us, through His predestination of our lives, to His active calling of us from our lives of total God-hate. He has shown how, by the work of Jesus on the cross, we have been adopted into God's family, and how this was made possible through our justification through the sacrifice of Jesus. We saw how, at the top of this ladder, we reach our glorification along side our loving Savior.
Paul sent us word that nothing can ever separate us from the love of God. We simply can't be fallen away; we can't be snatched out of the hand of Jesus. We have also been warned that, if Jesus was abused by the world, we can expect to follow Him in that way also.
So, what has all of this led Paul to conclude?
That neither death nor life, not angels, not basic governments nor mighty powers, nothing that exists now nor anything that may exist in the future, not any high things nor the deepest, most mysterious things, not even any other created thing, has the ability to separate us from the love of God, which is Christ Jesus, our Lord.
Having said all of this, a person has to see some obvious conclusions.
If a person is called by God, they WILL be saved. It is just simply not possible to resist a true calling.
If a person believes in Jesus Christ, believes that He is God's Son, believes that He died as a sacrifice to pay for the sins of His people, that person is an adopted child of God Almighty.
If that person is such a child, then he will lose this life, but he will gain a new life that will last for all eternity.
That eternal life will be as an heir, a brother (or sister) to the King of Kings.
If that person is of royal adoption, then this life may be a very hard, very rough, very painful one. But, the children of God are promised that they will be victorious.
A blink of an eye that is this life, in exchange for a forever filled with happiness, peace and love as part of an utterly HUGE family.
If you, dear reader, are feeling the calling of God to believe in His Son, Jesus, please, do not resist--do not delay.
This eternity awaits those that will submit to Jesus Christ as Lord and King. It all can start with a simple prayer, where you admit your guilt of having sinned (disobeyed) God. Ask that your sins be washed away by the shed blood of Jesus. Turn away from your sinful ways, and ask that Jesus take your life and make it His own.
There is no better feeling, no more comforting knowledge, than to know that your faults, your trespassess, your sins, are washed away. To know that the man that died for YOU is alive, in control, and awaiting the day when He can welcome His people into His arms forever.
Grace and Peace....
